Anakin and Obi-Wan's Farewell

Episode III- Revenge of the Sith

What makes this scene resonate so much is the parallel scene in The Phantom Menace between Obi-Wan and his master Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan apologizes to his master over his harsh words about Anakin and Qui-Gon tenderly praises him with the affection of a father. That was the last conversation the two of them had (not counting Qui-Gon’s final commission to his apprentice before dying). Here, Anakin apologizes for his recent behavior and Obi-Wan praises him in the same way as Qui-Gon. Ewan McGregor's warm, subtle acting is on superb display. Does Obi-Wan and/or McGregor remember the prior scene? I'd like to think so. Anakin and Obi-Wan will talk to each other again, but this is the last time they will do so as friends.
