With my tastes as strange as they are, there are two more "pure cinema" scenes on my list that I actually love even more (one each in the Gold and Platinum categories). One of my friends who read this list before I posted it didn't even remember those other two scenes and had to look them up. I'm sure he remembered this sunset scene just fine.
Yeah, I explain that in the introductory post. The Platinum category is the only one that I ranked. I did it that way because I'm one of those people who agonize over whether or not I really liked #56 more than #57. If I did rank this scene, it would have easily been in the top 25.
Right? Wait until you see the rest of the Silver category. 😉 On top of that, Gold isn't even my highest category (Platinum is the top ten while Gold represents the runners-up). I knew somebody was going to say something like this and I was prepared with a response: like I have said before, I'm a weird Star Wars fan and you will see more of my eccentricities as the list goes on. A part of me wanted to put this scene higher, but as I said in the post, I can't relate to it as well as most "normal" people do. Young people who are normal want to get away from home and get out on their own. I didn't. I did anyways because, essentially, a situation happened back in 2005 and I answered the call.
It took watching that scene without the score to make me think of this, but visually the long shot reminds me of the end of THX 1138. Which makes me wonder if George Lucas had that in mind when he composed this scene.
Good point! I don't think I quite saw that connection before but I should have. The clearest amalgamation of this scene and the ending of THX 1138 is the final shot of The Rise of Skywalker, the very ending of the saga. I will be getting to that later. 🙂
A great example of a perfect movie scene.

There's a platinum category? Cool.

It's a good system.
Correction: there are three more "pure cinema" scenes (two in the Gold category and one in Platinum).
I'm curious what makes your cut as the gold standards for scenes. Because you're picking some bangers as silver.
